Kathir & Cars!

Kathir is obsessed with "cars". Am sure all mom's of little boys will nod in agreement. His obsession with cars can is equivalent to little girls obsessions with Barbie dolls.

Kathir brushes his cars' imaginary teeth, gives them a bath, feeds them, rides on them, sometimes whacks them etc.

In the last 4 months ( he is now 2 and half) he recognizes most cars on the road. His first question in Nov during our Kerala trip was: Yeh kaun sa car hai (pointing to a Merc parked in the restaurant we had stopped on our way to Alleppy). Since then there's no stopping him - From Chrevolet Cruz to Santro to all Maruti brands... mercs, Skoda... you name it and he recognizes them.

Yesterday, kathir saw some buffaloes on his way to school. Here goes the conversation:

Mamma, buffalo chalta kaise hai? Uska to wheel nahin hai!!
Buffalo ka steering wheel kahan hai? Aur uska horn kahan hai - horn kaisa bajata hai?
Its difficult for him to imagine anything on the road that has no wheels!!

Middle of the night in his sleep: Sab rocket udd gaya!

While painting: Mamma ek space ship banao pls; mamma ek alien nikalo space ship se...

What he wants to watch on Mac: Baba, ek xylo dikhao. Mamma, ek Ferrari dikhao...

What he wants to watch on TV: Discovery Turbo, Doremon and Kitretsu (all the more interesting if they have aliens and space ships in them)

Bombay Jayenge

Kathir latest obsession is - Bombay Jayenge. Last year my cousin and nieces came to Hyd for a very short visit. Kathir could not get over his "didi's" who needless to say indulged him no end!

Finally when they were leaving, Kathir had fallen asleep. He just could not get over the fact that they left so soon. Since then (Dec 09 first week) until now (April first week) he has been constantly (and persistently) wanting to meet them.

I planned a trip in March (holi time) but could not find any tickets. Kathir was very disappointed. He kept telling his masi (nanny): Mamma ko bombay ka ticket nahin mila, plane mein ticket finish ho gaya; train mein bhi nahin hai; ab to xylo mein jana padega...

Finally, I have booked in advance and hope to land up on April 9th in Bombay! Kathir is super excited about it. He loves school... but everyday when we get ready, he tells me:

"Mamma, aaj school nahin jayenge; aaj bombay jayenge! "

He has also ensured that I buy a "green" strolley, shoes, and water bottle for the trip!

School vs Home

My prediction about his change in status (from good boy to bad boy) has come true! Yes, he is 2 and half now and has all signs of a normal 2 and 1/2 - naughty, willful, adamant, assertive about his needs - and above all ADORABLE!

Today, he came back from school and fortunately I was home. Here goes the conversation:

Mamma: "Who is the naughtiest girl in school?"
Kathir: Padma teacher and Geeta didi (the caretaker).

Mamma: Why?
Kathir: Woh Yutika ko tang karte hain... (Yutika is another tiny adorable brat)

Mamma: Oh?
Kathir: Geeta didi bolti hai - Yutika, no fighting!

--------------

Kathir had susu accident at home - a pretty frequent accident if we are not alert enough to frisk him away to the toilet in time...

Kathir: Baby susu kiya
Mamma: Bad boy, pant mein susu kiya...

Kathir: (Frowning)
Mamma: School mein toilet susu karte ho, ghar mein kyon pant susu?
Kathir (Frowning): Woh to school hai na!!
